A Healthy Twist on a Sweet Classic

Sometimes nothing satisfies a sweet tooth better than a good old fashioned milkshake. The cool, creamy decadence of a chocolate milkshake is tough to beat, but we have discovered a healthy recipe that is almost as good as the real thing.

We can sense you turning your nose up through the computer screen as you read the words “Avocado Milkshake”, but hear us out! The honey and vanilla almond milk provide just enough sweetness and the avocado gives it that deliciously smooth texture.

Health benefits:

Many people consider avocados a “superfood” because they contain a high amount of heart-healthy fats that have been shown to both reduce cholesterol and help keep you fuller longer. Avocados are also a source of fiber, potassium, antioxidants, folate, Vitamin K, Vitamin C and other nutrients. Almond milk has more than twice the amount of calcium than regular milk. It also has less calories, less saturated fat, less cholesterol and fewer grams of sugar and is an excellent source of Vitamin E.

Substitutions:

If you are following a strict sugar diet, you could substitute the honey for an all-natural sweetener like Stevia. On the other hand, if you are in the mood to indulge, top this with a dollop of light cool whip!

Ingredients:

  • 1 avocado
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 cup Almond Milk (we recommend the Light Vanilla Almond Milk, or if you’re feeling particularly indulgent, the Dark Chocolate Almond Milk, which is higher in calories but is still an excellent source of calcium and vitamin E)
  • 4 cubes of ice

Directions

Place all of the ingredients in a blender or food processer and blend until smooth. Enjoy!
